Christian's Music Video Shoot

Late last night I helped Christian shoot a music video. The overall idea for the video was to have him singing while four people passed him phones from all four sides of the shot. My job was to be one of the people passing him phones, but I also got some great pictures. I'll post the video whenever it comes out so you can see my debut as a hand model.

After we shot a few takes of the video we changed things up a bit and started handing him beer instead of telephones. While the beer video is awesome, I don't think it will be widely distributed.

More pictures from the night are available in my gallery - Sketch Williams Video Shoot.

In The Woods

I haven't taken a good self-portrait in the last six months so last night I figured I was due. I drove to Assiniboine Forest after church and took a few shots, the best of which is this.

There is something so peaceful about a forest at night.

Boxing Day Boxing - Round Three

Yesterday was the third annual boxing day boxing match amongst my friends. For the past two years we have gathered on boxing day to throw some punches and give meaning to the holiday.

This year we copied last year's format and combined the boxing matches with a game of Settler of Catan. If someone rolls a seven in the game they can steal a card from another player of their choice. In our version the person who is having their card stolen may then challenge the stealer to a boxing match in order to not have to give up a card.

This changes the game since you no longer simply consider who has a card you want to steal, but also will they challenge you to a fight, and do you have a reasonable chance of winning.

Here, in the first fight of the night, Girish decided to steal a card from Matt which lead to Matt challenging Girish to a fight and Girish losing the match. From there, multiple fights followed and Justin narrowly beat Mark to victory.

You can find more pictures of the fighting on my gallery.

Happy Birthday Emily

Tuesday was Emily's twenty-first birthday. We spent the evening at her family's house eating pizza, scrap-booking, and eventually eating cake. It was fun to spend time with family but without a really strict agenda and without many distractions. Time is one of the best gifts you can ever give someone.

Superhero / Supervillain Photo Shoot

If you were near the Legislature you may have seen some strangely dressed people wandering around near one o'clock. If you ventured south on Osborne shortly afterwards you would have seen a different set of strangely dressed people - a set of superheroes and supervillains.

It was a fun afternoon spent either in the apartment relaxing with friends or wandering about while contemplating how each building would look like as a backdrop for an epic battle. The one thing I learned today is that there are a surprising number of great locations to take portraits only a stones throw away from my apartment.

These pictures and lots more can be found in the gallery.

Vanity (Weapon of Choice)

Many years ago I worked at the Fort Whyte Centre doing semi-menial labour (I have to admit that the job was a lot of fun). On Sundays I would show up early to clean and unlock the centre. Although waking up early is not my strong point, it was a nice change to see the sun rise once and a while.

Some days I would bring my camera to work with me so I could take some pictures on my breaks or after my shift. One picture was always sort of a favorite of mine. It was a shot of me with my feet up on the boardroom table listen to music and looking completely scrubby in a toque, fleece jacket and old worn out shoes. Not much to look at really, but for some reason I really liked it. I named it 'Weapon of Choice' since that was what I was listening to while taking the picture.

Earlier, I had been giving thought to retaking that picture and improving on it. I like the concept of the picture, but I know I can do far better now compared to before. Perhaps something without dust, scratches and tong marks on the print. Maybe even a slight change in composition to give it some edge.

Anyway, I was able to re-shoot the picture a while back, so here is the new & updated 'Weapon of Choice'.

Looking at the two of them, I can safely say that I have come a long way.
