Riding Mountain Camping Trip

This weekend I went to Riding Mountain on Friday night and Saturday with William and Gary from the photography club. We had a good time except for the rain and thunderstorms.

The two highlights of the trip were a trip to the bison pasture and a walk on a old sketchy boardwalk.

On Saturday morning we drove off to the bison pasture. Since it was early in the morning, instead of hiding under the trees, the bison were out in force, standing in the middle of the field. A number were on the road which lead to some excellent opportunities for pictures.

I think we were the stereotype of wildlife photographers. Three guys, all with telephoto lenses, hanging out the windows of a car. We probably looked pretty stupid, but it was a lot of fun.

After the bison, had a breakfast of grilled chicken and steak, and headed out for a hike. William didn't want to get wet or muddy, and considering it rained last night, I picked a wheelchair accessible boardwalk through a marsh.

The board walk turned out to be neither wheelchair accessible or dry. As you walked certain sections would randomly submerge under your weight, so the best course of action was to walk until you noticed water coming up from under you, then run to the next section. I don't have a clue how a wheelchair could navigate this, but it was a lot of fun since it was like real life Mario Brothers.

All in all, it was a fun weekend and I got some great pictures.
