Vanity (Weapon of Choice)

Many years ago I worked at the Fort Whyte Centre doing semi-menial labour (I have to admit that the job was a lot of fun). On Sundays I would show up early to clean and unlock the centre. Although waking up early is not my strong point, it was a nice change to see the sun rise once and a while.

Some days I would bring my camera to work with me so I could take some pictures on my breaks or after my shift. One picture was always sort of a favorite of mine. It was a shot of me with my feet up on the boardroom table listen to music and looking completely scrubby in a toque, fleece jacket and old worn out shoes. Not much to look at really, but for some reason I really liked it. I named it 'Weapon of Choice' since that was what I was listening to while taking the picture.

Earlier, I had been giving thought to retaking that picture and improving on it. I like the concept of the picture, but I know I can do far better now compared to before. Perhaps something without dust, scratches and tong marks on the print. Maybe even a slight change in composition to give it some edge.

Anyway, I was able to re-shoot the picture a while back, so here is the new & updated 'Weapon of Choice'.

Looking at the two of them, I can safely say that I have come a long way.

While some do criticize my tie, I feel it adds a certain air of décontracté.
