At The Bottom Of My Reading List

Every now and then I come across a good book that I really want to purchase, drop everything, and read in one sitting. Today isn't that day.

Today I found a bad book. Possibly the worst book in existence, assuming Douglas Adams never published a collection of Vogon poetry. Altanta Nights by Travis Tea (say the name out loud if you don't get it at first) is an honest sincere attempt at writing a book that is unpublishable. The spelling and grammar are bad, the chapters are mis-numbered, the plot is weak, some chapters are repeated, characters change sexes throughout the book, one chapter was written by a rather dim artificial intelligence, and other fun things make this so bad it is interesting.

The real story behind this book is a publisher (that fancied itself to be a publisher of high quality material) make a series of degrading remarks towards science fiction and fantasy writers who wanted revenge. Consequently this book was written to show the publisher that their standards are not that high. The full story is here .

You have to admit that reviews like these are good (in their own way);

The world is full of bad books written by amateurs. But why settle for the merely regrettable? Atlanta Nights is a bad book written by experts.
-- T. Nielsen Hayden

I read Atlanta Nights cover-to-cover in a single sitting and thoroughly loved it. Then I turned it right side up and did it again!

Amazing. Incredible. Mind-bending. Sweet. Coy. Surprising. These are all words. Some of them are found in this book. Buy it. Read it. Lend it. Love it. I have seen the future of American literature. And his name is Travis Tea.
-- Redd Ruffansohr

I so want to read it now.
